Education & Future Readiness
Higher Ground Community Development equips students with the guidance, resources, and confidence needed to succeed in college, career training, and the workforce. Through personalized mentoring, ACT preparation, scholarship and FAFSA assistance, career exploration, financial literacy, and life-skills development, we help students turn their goals into achievable plans.
Higher Ground has assisted students in securing more than $19 million in scholarships, and 90% of mentored students have successfully transitioned into their desired colleges and/or careers.
Our impact includes students from Calera, Wenonah, Spain Park, Midfield, Jackson-Olin, Ramsay, Bessemer City, Fairfield Preparatory, McAdory, and Parker high schools. We have also worked throughout the Midfield, Bessemer, Fairfield, and Birmingham school districts.
At Midfield High School, for example, students gained direct access to college representatives, career professionals, financial-literacy resources, ACT preparation, scholarship guidance, and workforce opportunities—helping them build confidence and create clear plans for life after graduation.

Through health and wellness education, community outreach and resource expos, and family-focused support initiatives, we bring healthcare providers, service organizations, and community partners directly to the people who need them most—promoting healthier families, stronger neighborhoods, and thriving communities.
